Prompt: Preparing for a Consent Discussion

A prompt to help you prepare a clear, plain-language summary of what patients need to understand before a key consent discussion.

Prompt: Preparing for a Consent Discussion

The Prompt

Help me prepare for a consent discussion about {{consent_topic — e.g., "embryo freezing and storage" or "the use of donor eggs"}} with {{patient_context — e.g., "a heterosexual couple in their late thirties" or "a single woman aged 38 using donor sperm"}}.

Draft a plain-language summary of:
1. The key things this patient needs to understand before signing
2. The questions I should check comprehension on
3. Common concerns or fears patients raise about this topic — and brief, honest responses to each

This is for my own preparation. I will adapt it for the actual conversation.

Plain English only. No legal language. Around 300 words.

Privacy reminder: Use general descriptions only — not the real patient's name, clinic number, or identifying details.

Why This Works

Framing this as "for my own preparation" keeps the AI's output at the right level — a thinking aid, not a finished document for the patient. Asking explicitly for common patient fears helps you anticipate the conversation rather than react to it.

How to Tweak It

  • To focus on a specific concern, add: "The patient has specifically raised {{concern — e.g., 'what happens to the embryos if we separate'}}. Make sure this is addressed clearly."
  • To prepare for a longer discussion, add: "Format this as a structured discussion guide with clear headings for each topic area."
